Welcome!  I am blogging about the first roleplaying game that I am doing with my kids, ages 7 and 4 (almost 5).  I call it Still Not King.  It is based on playing characters who support Aragorn (from Lord of the Rings) in his earliest journeys as he learns all the lore that he can about Middle Earth and the ways of it's peoples.

Aragorn is being played by me, the DM, as a non player character (npc) so that he is a constant.  Plus, there'd always be a fight to be him, duh!  Always available to advise Aragorn before and after adventures are Gandalf, Galadriel, and Elrond.  His first batch of helpers on his first quest are Arwen in disguise as Niriel - an Elf of Rivendell,  Legolas - yes, that Legolas, and Primula Brandybuck (Prim) - the mother of Frodo Baggins in her youth as a member of SHAC, the Secret Hobbit Adventuring Club.  I have checked and the timeline supports Prim as she would be a young Hobbit at this time, not quite come of age yet and well before the birth of Frodo.  Plus this sets up a nice possibility in that her death was documented as a boating accident on the Brandywine, but who really knows?  Perhaps she made some enemies in her youth?

So far the company, accompanied by Gandalf for the moment, has just set out on it's first assignment - to go to Fangorn forest and get a special piece of wood from the Ent known as Fangorn and return the piece to Elrond in Rivendell.  They are traveling south on the east bank of the Bruinen and have come across a tomato farmer with a goblin problem.  They befriended the farmer and surveyed his damaged crops.  They also found a spot of "dead" earth that only allowed the growing of very stunted brown grass.  The elves knew this as the result of the Ash of Orodruin - one of Sauron's little presents when he invaded Hollin many years ago.  It allegedly can be cured only by the Mulch of Lorien, which they told the farmer they would try to get, seing as they would almost be to Lorien when they get to Fangorn.  They are currently having dinner with the farmer and will track the goblins in the morning after a nights rest.

Tune in tomorrow for the exciting conclusion of the first adventure of Still Not King - The Goblin Crop Stompers of Hollin!
